MARION BRIDGE, N.S. - Police in Nova Scotia have identified human remains that were found stuffed inside a hockey bag and floating on a river.

Cape Breton Regional Police say the remains of a 21-year-old woman from Cape Breton were found around 8 p.m. on Friday in Marion Bridge.

Investigators say the remains were discovered by residents who spotted the bag floating on the Mira River behind their home on Hillside Road.

Police are not releasing the victim's name at the request of the family.

Officers from the major crime, identification and marine units are investigating.
