More than 20 years since its launch, the We movement is still encouraging youth to make the world a better place and this year is no different.

On Oct. 19, some 200,000 youth from around the world will gather in stadiums to take part in the initiative.

But this year, families will be encouraged to take part as well. The first ever ‘We Day Family’ event will take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

We Day co-founder Marc Kielburger told CTV’s Your Morning on Thursday that it’s time for parents and loved ones to join their children in the movement.

“We’ve seen this entire generation of young people getting involved, socially responsible, (and) they come back from We Day, they’re so excited and the parents say ‘What happened to you? Now the parents will be able to see firsthand.”

Kielburger said We Day Family event will take place in the evening and will differ from the We Day event during the day.

“The youth We Day itself will be, of course, lots of fun and energy and a conversation and a concert around social change,” he said.

“The We Day Family is designed for families, moms, dads, you know families of any make or model, shape and size, (to) come together to have conversations around social change. This one will be more family-focused. We’ll have family ambassadors, people like Nelly (Furtado) to come talk to moms… The point being is this is an opportunity for families to come together in a very powerful way.”
