Texas man sets out to beat Ellen's record-breaking Oscar selfie

Call it a case of the underdogs: A Texas man has set out to beat Ellen DeGeneres’s record-breaking tweet -- and he’s seeing some serious results.

Inspired by the A-list celebrity selfie at the Oscars, Terry Shipman, who hails from Beaumont, Texas, tweeted a photo of himself with his two dogs, Max and Oreo, on Tuesday night.

“Let’s see if we can beat the Oscar re-tweets!” Shipman wrote.

During a comic bit at the Oscars, host Ellen Degeneres joined the audience for a star-studded selfie, which included Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Brad Pitt, Angeline Jolie, Kevin Spacy, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Lupita Nyong’o and Channing Tatum.

While nowhere near Degeneres’s record-breaking 3.2 million retweets, Shipman’s post was retweeted more than 100,000 times by Wednesday night. His Twitter following also shot up froma mere 20 followers on Tuesday to 5,000 on Wednesday.
