MONTREAL -- Projects about a hapless romantic, female hunters and Canada's war on terror have been chosen to receive funding from Telefilm's new micro-budget fund.
Telefilm Canada says eight emerging filmmakers will receive up to $120,000 each under the Micro-Budget Production Program.
The program supports emerging writers, directors and producers trying to produce their first feature-length film, with special emphasis on digital-media production and marketing methods.
The budget of each project must not exceed $250,000.
With more and more Canadians watching videos online, Telefilm boss Carolle Brabant says she wants to encourage innovative production and distribution strategies.
The filmmakers are expected to begin receiving the funds this spring.
The projects include "The Next Morning" by writer-director Matt Sadowski, in which "a nebbish and hapless romantic is thrust into a whimsical whirlwind weekend romance with a young divorcee."
Proposed documentaries include "The Secret Trial 5" by director Amar Wala, which examines the human impact of Canada's war on terror, and "Un film de chasse de filles" by writer-director Julie Lambert, about female hunters in Quebec.
And "Two4One" by writer-director Maureen Bradley is a cross-platform-media project involving a feature film, reality Web series and an interactive graphic novel about a transgender man becoming pregnant.
