CTV National News Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme has been named Best News Anchor at the Canadian Screen Awards for the second year in a row.

The awards for the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television were presented Sunday night at a televised gala at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

This is LaFlamme’s second time taking the honour. She won Best News Anchor, National at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.

LaFlamme began her broadcasting career in 1988 as a copy writer and script assistant at CTV Kitchener (then named CKCO).

In the years that followed, LaFlamme moved into national and international reporting, covering wars, elections and natural disasters -- often from some of the world’s most hostile regions.

In 2010, LaFlamme was appointed successor to Lloyd Robertson as full-time anchor of CTV National News, and since then, has helmed coverage of major world events, including the royal wedding of William and Kate, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the 2012 London Games and the 2014 Sochi Games. She anchored CTV National News live from a Cairo hotel room during the 2011 uprising in Egypt.

Earlier this week, W5, CTV’s investigative news program, won the Canadian Screen Award for "The War Zone," a series that examined the deadly 2012 shooting of a Canadian war veteran by the RCMP.

W5 journalist Tom Kennedy also won Best Host or Interviewer in a News or Information Program or Series.

CTV’s Asia Bureau Chief Janis Mackey Frayer won the Best Reportage, National award for "They Would Bury the Children Last," one of several reports from the frontlines during last summer’s Gaza war.

The second season of reality series "The Amazing Race Canada," which airs on CTV, won three trophies: best direction, picture editing and writing.
