Tom Kennedy


Tom Kennedy joined W5’s team of investigative journalists in November, 2012, making the move back across the pond from London, England, where he was London Bureau Chief for CTV National News since March, 2001.

His first documentary for W5, “Food For Thought”, was the result of an undercover investigation revealing the disturbing and inhumane treatment of animals used in food production.

Tom Kennedy is a Newfoundlander, born in St. John's. He was educated there, in Scotland, and at Ryerson in Toronto where he graduated with a BA in journalism.

Kennedy began his journalism career at the Globe and Mail in Toronto, where he worked part-time as Desk Editor and Reporter. In 1976, he moved to Montreal where he began working in television for the CBC.

Over the next 25 years, he covered many national and international events, for both the English and French networks of the CBC. In the late 1980s he spent three years based in Beijing, covering Asia. Over those years, he has won many awards for news and documentary reporting, including two Gemini Awards.

Kennedy is fluent in both English and French.
