TORONTO -- Toronto's Luminato Festival says it's staging "one of the largest performance events" the city has ever seen with "Apocalypsis."

Billed as an "epic musical voyage," the show is written by acclaimed Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer and will feature 1,000 performers.

The cast includes multi-disciplinary artist Nina Arsenault, Tony Award-winning actor Brent Carver and Polaris Prize-winning throat singer Tanya Tagaq.

Other performers include dancer Denise Fujiwara, opera star Kawiti Waetford and performance artist Laurie Anderson, who will provide voiceover work.

New Zealand's Lemi Ponifasio will helm the oratorio with musical direction from Toronto's David Fallis, who will lead nearly 20 other conductors onstage.

This is the first time "Apocalypsis" is being performed in full since its 1980 world premiere in London, Ont.

Luminato will stage the show at the Sony Centre June 26 to 28.
