There's a new generation of racers and Lightning McQueen needs some help to make his comeback bid.

"You'll never be as fast as Storm, but you can be smarter," franchise hero Lightning McQueen is told in a new trailer for "Cars 3."

Now in its 11th year, the "Cars" franchise is heading towards its third core entry with June's tale of recovery and resolution.

Red racing car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) gets wiped out trying to keep up with a new breed of younger, faster vehicles.

As part of his recovery, he teams up with chirpy yellow sportster Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo, "The Angry Birds Movie") -- and a couple of familiar faces like Mater, Sally, and Luigi -- and takes a crash course in modern training methods.

The 2011 sequel "Cars 2" earned $562m in box office revenue, and "Cars 3" is set to release in June just as its two predecessors have done.

Before Disney Pixar releases "Cars 3" on June 16, 2017, Fox's children's novel adaptations "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" and "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie" arrive May 19 and June 2 respectively.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" aims for an older crowd from June 21, before Universal's own animated adventure threequel "Despicable Me 3" arrives June 30.
