B.C. RCMP have identified the man found dead on the grounds of the Pemberton Music Festival.

Investigators said Saturday 21-year-old Nick Phongsavath, of Regina, was found dead at the music festival on Friday.

Investigators have deemed the death suspicious, and said in a statement that “it appeared that there may be indications of foul play.”

Police have not confirmed the cause of death.

A festival goer told CTV Vancouver that local police and the investigators had cordoned off an area of tents and portable toilets.

An estimated 26,000 people are attending the five-day event, which is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. Investigators are asking concertgoers who may have information about the incident to contact them.

"The Pemberton Music Festival can confirm that an incident has occurred in one of the festival campgrounds," HUKA Entertainment, the company behind the festival, said in a statement. "RCMP are on-site investigating."

At the same time the incident occurred, the band Nine Inch Nails was playing a packed show on a nearby stage.

This year was supposed to be a comeback year for the festival. It is the first time since 2008 that Pemberton has hosted the series of concerts. The last Pemberton Music Festival was plagued by traffic jams, dust, and unclean washrooms.

This year’s event is scheduled to continue until Sunday.

Pemberton is located about 150 kilometres north of Vancouver.
