HALIFAX -- Flooded basements and leaky roofs have been reported across the Halifax region today after heavy rain swept over the city on the weekend.

A large buildup of snow and ice on city streets has left many catch-basins blocked, leading to flooding in low areas.

As well, the accumulated snow on roofs is being blamed for creating ice dams and resulting leaks.

At one point, city officials say they were receiving up to 25 reports of flooding every hour on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Halifax Regional School Board has closed several schools because of water damage.
