EDMONTON -- A man who wounded a toddler in a drive-by shooting on a central Alberta reserve is back behind bars.
The Parole Board of Canada has revoked statutory release for Christopher Crane.
It says the 25-year-old was arrested after staff at a community residential facility found him drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
Crane had also been drinking and doing drugs on the Samson Cree Nation in April 2008 when he fired a rifle at a home he thought belonged to a rival gang member.
A bullet went through a wall and struck 23-month old Asia Saddleback in the chest as she was sitting at a kitchen table.
She miraculously survived, although doctors were unable to remove the bullet lodged between her liver and spine.
Crane pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and other charges and was sentenced to seven years and five months.
He was released from prison in March after serving two-thirds of his sentence, and the parole board imposed various conditions that included not to consume alcohol.
He is next scheduled for statutory release on Dec. 16, 2016.
