British pop star Ed Sheeran helped give a mother who is battling cancer an unforgettable marriage proposal at a concert in Saskatoon, the day before she was scheduled for brain surgery.

Tanya Procyshyn, learned a few weeks ago she has brain cancer. The mother of three was scheduled to have surgery Wednesday to remove a portion of her tumour. But on Tuesday night, her long-time partner, Pablo Benitez, surprised her with front row tickets for Sheeran's concert at the SaskTel Centre.

The surprise didn't end there. Benitez waited until Sheeran began singing one of Procyshyn's favorite songs, “Thinking Out Loud,” then pulled out an engagement ring and asked her to marry him.

She said yes, and while they kissed, Sheeran interrupted to announce the engagement to the crowd.

"I'm just going to stop for a second here" he said. "A couple in the front row just got engaged. Congratulations."

The dream proposal almost didn't happen. Benitez didn't have tickets for the show, but he met the pop star on Monday at a pub in Saskatoon during a private function and told him about Procyshyn and his plans to propose. After hearing Benitez's plan, Sheeran – who has helped several couples become engaged at his concerts -- got the couple tickets to his show.

C95 Radio morning show host Rob Suski heard about the proposal and asked the mystery couple to call in. Their story must have touched listeners, because within hours, a fundraising campaign was launched, aimed at giving the couple the wedding of their dreams.

So far, the station has received multiple offers of wedding venues, wedding dresses, tuxedos, and photography for the couple. And because Procyshyn dreams of honeymooning in Niagara Falls, they have also received offers of return airfare to Toronto for the couple and their three kids. The radio station has also set up a GoFundMe page for the family.

Suski says in all his years in radio, he has never seen this kind of listener response for a couple.

"When something like this pops up and you see how the community responded, it was really, really emotional," Suski told CTV.

Procyshyn went ahead with her surgery on Wednesday and is now recovering. Benitez says he and Procyshyn plan to marry next spring.

This isn't the first time Sheeran has surprised fans during the Canadian leg of his concert tour. On Sunday, after hearing a young fan singing one of his songs during a fundraiser at the West Edmonton Mall, he jumped onstage and joined her for an impromptu duet.
