An Air Canada flight from Manchester, England landed in Toronto Sunday after passengers were stranded for two days.

The plane was scheduled to leave the Manchester Airport on Friday, but as many as 197 passengers were stuck on the plane for more than three hours while technicians tried to fix a mechanical issue. After several other delays and cancellations, the flight was eventually rescheduled for Sunday.

“Really, it’s not rocket science. It’s unacceptable,” said Peter Hatcher, who was waiting in Toronto for his son and his family to arrive.

Paul and Tracy Hatcher were travelling with their three children, all under the age of five. According to Paul Hatcher, they were put up in a hotel on Friday night and told to come back to the airport the next morning.

“We were told the plane would leave at 12 but as soon as we checked in it wasn’t until three. At three nothing happening, we were told four, then told five,” he told CTV Toronto, adding that his family was put up in a hotel again.

After the couple started to run out of formula for their children, they say an Air Canada official told them to ration it.

Mark Doherty was on his way to Toronto to celebrate his brother’s 60th birthday but missed the party on Saturday night due to the delay. He described the scene Saturday night as all of the flight’s passengers storming the information desk in hopes of getting some answers.

“Everybody just refused to get on the plane and stormed the information desk and the people running it for Air Canada locked themselves in a room,” said Doherty.

A statement from Air Canada thanked customers for their patience and committed to doing better next time.

“Mechanical challenges compounding into crew duty day restrictions resulted in this flight and our customers incurring lengthy delays,” the statement said.

Some passengers were upgraded to first class and Air Canada said that all passengers will receive a full refund.
