It's not the way most people picture their first night of wedded bliss.

A bride and groom ended their wedding night in the Edmonton Police Service’s cutest little jailhouse suites, after they were booked for a post-wedding brawl at a downtown bar.

It’s unclear how the brawl started, but photos and videos posted on social media show the fight spilling out of the Denizen Hall bar and onto the street, where police soon intervened.

Witnesses say it was a bizarre scene, and the bride was right in the middle of it.

“The doors just explode open and bodies just start piling out,” witness Matt Machado told CTV Edmonton.

“The bride is just swinging, and the melee ends up on the sidewalk,” said another witness.

“As we’re watching you just see this girl in a wedding dress right in the middle of it,” a third witness said.

“It was just absolutely ridiculous and absolutely absurd,” Machado said.

Police say the bride was arrested and charged with assault, while the groom was charged with mischief. Their identities have not been released.

Several images and videos of the incident were posted online. “Your wedding is trash,” one user wrote in a tweet, which included a photo of the bride sitting outside next to security staff.

“Pure garbage,” said another user, who shared an image of bar patrons watching the brawl.

No one was injured in the altercation.

Witnesses credited the bar’s security staff with resolving the incident.
