TORONTO -- Payment technology developer GuestLogix Inc. (TSX:GXI) is expanding its reach to Ireland with a new global support centre located closer to some of its customers.

The Toronto-based company, which provides airlines and railway companies with onboard retail technology, said Monday that it will open a centre in Dublin this fall that caters to businesses in the region.

Plans are also underway to launch a product innovation lab in Dublin that will work alongside its recently-opened lab in Moncton, N.B.

"It made perfect sense for us to bolster our presence in the area as we currently service both major carriers located in Ireland and see extensive strategic partner opportunities within the region," said GuestLogix president and CEO Brett Proud in a statement.

Support for 80 existing customers will continue to be made through its regional offices in London, Dallas and Hong Kong, the company said.

GuestLogix helps airlines and other travel operators create, manage, and control onboard retail environments tailored to their needs and their passengers.

Two years ago, the company acquired Initium Onboard, a British-based provider of onboard retail technology, for $5.16 million in cash and stock. The transaction gave GuestLogix about 27 customers that used Initium's retail systems at the time.

Other carriers that use GuestLogix's system include Air Canada Rouge (TSX:AC.B) and China Southern Airlines, Asia's largest carrier.
