REGINA -- Saskatchewan Government Insurance is apologizing for a privacy breach that involved the personal information of 18 people.

SGI says an independent office in Lestock than handles SGI auto licensing and insurance has been disciplined.

The employee that violated the rules has been removed from the system permanently.

Earl Cameron, vice-president of SGI's auto fund, says the Crown insurer is auditing every transaction that goes through the Lestock office.

He says the office will be on probation and will lose its contract to handle SGI business if there is another breach.

Cameron says it doesn't appear as if the files were viewed with malicious intent.

SGI investigated after someone complained in late May.
