RED DEER, Alta. -- Air Canada launched service on Tuesday between Calgary and Red Deer, with three half-hour flights daily in each direction.
The new service -- operated by Air Georgian under the Air Canada Express brand, using 18-seat Beechcraft 1900D aircraft -- links Red Deer to Air Canada's global network.
"Our businesses and citizens are now connected to the rest of Canada and the world, and that has broad economic opportunity and impact for the region," R.J. Steenstra, CEO of Red Deer Airport Authority, said in a release.
Parking is free at the terminal, Steenstra added.
Air Canada said it has received bookings for flights from Red Deer Airport to Calgary International Airport with connections to destinations across Canada and the U.S., and to international points including Zurich and Tokyo.
Besides the new flights to Calgary, Red Deer Airport is also used for scheduled service by Northwestern Air for flights to Kelowna and Abbotsford, B.C., and to Fort McMurray, Alta.
