Infiniti, the luxury arm of Japanese auto giant Nissan, has given the world a sneak preview of its new QX80 Monograph concept before the full-size luxury SUV is properly unveiled at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

The QX80 Monograph is a completely new design study that looks to explore unadulterated upscale luxury, while at the same time emphasizes the brand's determination to further enhance its reputation in the full-size luxury SUV segment.

The current QX80 is already renowned for its high levels of space and utility, but this new concept looks to combine those important SUV attributes with even greater luxury and a more commanding presence. We shouldn't necessarily expect to see the Monograph in showrooms anytime soon though, as Infiniti describes this product of its design studio in Atsugi, Japan, as "the ultimate expression of futuristic luxury SUV design," and a model that "illustrates how the design of Infiniti's QX80 could evolve."

However, this isn't some outlandish concept where the designers have just been given free rein to see what they can dream up, as the Monograph QX80 heavily applies Infiniti's latest design language in a way that's both sculptured and artistic. The design features a mix of geometric and organic shapes combined with the current model's power and elegance to deliver a vehicle with an unashamedly commanding and sophisticated presence.

Some elements of the concept's design are unmistakably Infiniti, such as the double-arch grille, which in this example is taller and wider than on current Infiniti production models. This creates a powerful new "face" for the QX80, which may well be a sign of things to come in the not-too-distant-future, while the familiar crescent-cut D-pillar has also been subtly remodeled.
