The Fisker Karma, a bespoke boutique high-end electric sedan by now-defunct automaker Fisker, will return to market in 2016 or 2017 as the Karma Revero, the company that now owns the rights to the car announced.

When California-based automaker Fisker went under several years ago, the remains were bought up by Chinese auto-parts manufacturer Wanxiang, who renamed the company Karma Automotive after Fisker’s flagship sedan.

Karma recently announced it hopes to resume production of the car, now named the Revero, in the U.S. before the end of the year, according to Green Car Reports. The new model will debut in July or August, and orders should open by late 2016.

The styling of the new Karma, which ended production in 2012, will remain largely unchanged, but underneath its skin the vehicle will have been extensively revised, Karma’s chief marketing officer Jim Taylor said. Thorough testing will avoid the quality issues that plagued the original cars, he added.

The electrical components that drive the Karma Revero will be supplied by BMW, but it’s uncertain whether Karma will use a new supplier for the gasoline range-extending engine previously supplied to Fisker by General Motors.

The new Revero will be built in California not far from the company’s headquarters. For the 2012 model year, the also California-based Fisker Automotive had assembled its Karma sedans in Finland.
