TORONTO -- Chrysler says it sold 21,932 cars and trucks in August, a seven per cent increase over the same month last year.

The auto manufacturer said the figures mark the 45th consecutive month of growth year-over-year, as passenger car sales saw an increase of 20 per cent, with calendar--year--to-date sales of 36,761.

The company sold 710 Dodge Darts in August, 642 Dodge Avengers and 2,551 Dodge Journeys.

It also sold 1,388 Town & Country cars, while Ram truck sales continued to increase, with 6,761 sold.

Kia Canada Inc. also reported its August sales Wednesday, saying it sold 7,502 cars and trucks in August, down 2.3 per cent from last August.
