Here are 5 things you need to know this Wednesday: Former Israeli leader Shimon Peres is dead at 93; the federal government has conditionally approved a $36-billion project to process liquefied natural in B.C.; Dutch officials are expected to present the preliminary findings of a probe into the downing of Flight MH17; William and Kate head to the Yukon for the next leg of their Canadian tour; and a Syrian tailor who just arrived in Canada is being credited with saving the day, after fixing a wedding dress.

1. Shimon Peres: Former Israeli president and prime minister Shimon Peres is dead at the age of 93. The news prompted an international outpouring of support for Peres, who also won a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to create peace in the Middle East.

2. LNG: The federal government has approved the $36-billion Pacific NorthWest LNG project, subject to 190 legally-binding conditions. The 900-kilometre pipeline and export terminal project is intended to process liquefied gas in a facility near the port of Prince Rupert, B.C., for export to markets in Asia. 

3. Flight MH17: Relatives and loved ones of the 298 victims who were killed when Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine in 2014 are gathered in the Netherlands today, where officials are scheduled to present the preliminary results of a Dutch-led criminal probe into the disaster.

4. Royals in the Yukon: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have headed north for the next leg of their Canadian tour. The couple will spend part of the day in Whitehorse, Yukon before heading south to the community of Carcoss to meet a local carver and tour the Montana Mountain site.

5. Helping hand: A Syrian tailor is credited with saving the day, after fixing a wedding dress. Ibrahim Halil Dudu -- who worked as a tailor for 28 years in Aleppo, Syria -- had only moved to Guelph, Ont. four days earlier.
