Police arrest man who ran towards U.S. Capitol building holding a shotgun

WASHINGTON — Police in Washington, D.C., said Tuesday that they had arrested a man who ran towards the U.S. Capitol building holding a shotgun.

Police said the man dropped his weapon and complied when “challenged” by U.S. Capitol police officers.

U.S. Congress was not in session when the arrest occurred.

Earlier, U.S. Capitol Police had urged people to avoid the area, saying that “our officers just arrested a person with what appears to be a gun.”
