Winnipeg Transit says it is making some “bigger changes than usual” with the release of its winter schedule next week, which aims to address routes with poor performance. The winter transit schedule will officially launch on Sunday, Dec. 14. “Winnipeggers have been clear about what’s working and what needs improvement,” Mayor Scott Gillingham said in a news release. “Winnipeg Transit is using that feedback, along with what they see on buses and at transit stops every day, to keep improving the new network.” The city said to deal with gaps in night service, the winter schedule will see all on-request zones currently operating after 7 p.m. extend to about 2 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sundays and holidays, these zones will operate until about 12:45 a.m. Along with this, the city is expanding the boundaries for zone 103, which will allow passengers to take on-request rides to Garden City Shopping Centre and Walmart. “We’ve also rewritten schedules for buses that were regularly late and added capacity to routes that were regularly full,” the city said in the release.
