A new street in Winnipeg’s Sage Creek North neighbourhood now bears a name drawn from ancient history—and two ambassadors were on hand to mark the occasion. Dardania Drive was officially dedicated Friday afternoon, with the Albanian and Kosovo ambassadors to Canada attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Area Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) says the name references Dardania, an ancient Roman province that encompassed much of what is now Albania and Kosovo. The street name was put forward by Mayes in 2024 following a request from Winnipeg’s Albanian-Canadian community, which turned out in force for the celebration. Replica street signs were later presented to both ambassadors.
