The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is looking into the cause of a Thursday morning 911 service disruption. The situation began early Thursday morning when officers reported their 911 lines were down. However, over two hours later, police announced that the system was fully restored and working as usual. At the same time, a technical issue with Bell caused 911 outages across the country, including in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. In a statement, Winnipeg police said the WPS Communications Centre determined it continued to receive 911 calls during the nationwide outage. Staff within the division are now working with the telecommunications provider to determine if any calls didn’t come through and identify the cause of the disruption.
