As Winnipeggers scramble to find ways to beat the heat, three local care homes are without central air conditioning. On Monday, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) issued a statement saying that a mechanical issue at Middlechurch Home, which is impacting air conditioning in part of the facility, is under repair. The health agency added that the home has implemented “interim cooling measures,” including access to air-conditioned common areas and portable cooling equipment. Meanwhile, temporary air conditioning units have been installed in rooms at Donwood Personal Care Home while repairs continue on flood-related damage sustained last month. Lastly, the spokesperson noted that Pembina Place Personal Care Home is dealing with recent air conditioning issues through the installation of large air conditioners on each floor. “The health, comfort and well-being of residents remain our top priority, and staff continue to monitor residents closely while this work is underway,” the statement said.
