Toronto police are urging the public to stay on the lookout for a young mother who allegedly abducted her three children while on a visit with them, and are also asking the public for information about a person of interst. “Today, we are continuing to ask the public to be aware and keep an eye out for the missing children, the suspect vehicle, and the suspect, their mother, Somerda,” Inspector Jeff Allington told reporters at a news conference Saturday. Officers responded to a parental abduction call in Scarborough just after 11:30 a.m. on Friday October, 20 in the area of Midland and Eglinton avenues. According to police, the 22-year-old mother, Somerda Miclescu, was having a semi-supervised visit with the children at a relative’s home when she took them. The three children – 4-month-old Anastasia, 3-year-old Irina, and 6-year-old Daniel – have been missing since. “Somerda does not have custody of her children, and her location is currently unknown,” Allington said. “I can tell you that investigators are actively searching for Somerda and her children, and are following up on every lead.” He said that includes any leads on the suspect vehicle – a 2017 white Ford Expedition with Ontario license plate DJS 875 – and its owner, identified by police as 25-year-old Ionut Stroe. “Mr. Stroe is also wanted by police on unrelated matters and is currently a person of interest in this abduction because his vehicle is believed to have been the one used in the abduction,” Allington said. Stroe is described as standing five-foot-11, weighing around 235 pounds with a tattoo on his right forearm. He is also being sought by police for failing to comply with the release order. He said investigators do not believe the situation currently meets the threshold for an Amber Alert at this time and they do not have any information to suggest Somerda might harm her children in any way. “We’ve got no information right now to suggest that she is trying to leave the province or the country,” he added. However police are asking anyone who spots Somerda, her 3 children, Stroe or the suspect vehicle to call 911. Investigators are currently in touch with other family members, Allington said. Miclescu is described as standing five-foot-seven, weighing 180 pounds, with long dark hair. She was last seen wearing a long black shirt and a dark-coloured top.
