TSB investigating plane fire in Winnipeg

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating after an airplane caught fire in Winnipeg on Monday.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating after a plane operated by Perimeter Airlines caught fire on Monday.

The incident took place Monday morning at 9:32 a.m. at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. A de Havilland DHC-8-102 aircraft with 32 passengers and three crew members on board were set to fly to Gods River Airport en route to Thompson.

The TSB said the crew received a call from a flight attendant and a ground controller telling them the plane was on fire. The plane was evacuated.

“Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting responded and extinguished a fire in the right wheel assembly,” TSB said in a statement. “All the passengers were safely brought upwind of the aircraft where a headcount was completed.”

Both Perimeter Aviation and the TSB said no injuries were reported. Damage was limited to the right-hand wheel assembly.

“The event is under investigation and Perimeter Aviation is working with the appropriate authorities,” Perimeter said in a statement.

The TSB said the incident has been classified as a Class 5 investigation, which are recorded for possible future safety analysis.
