The Forks closes river trail for the season

The Forks has officially closed the Nestaweya River Trail for the season after 62 days of operation.

A popular destination for outdoor skating in Winnipeg is closing up for another year.

The Forks confirmed Wednesday that the Nestaweya River Trail has officially closed for the season. The Forks said the warm temperatures and rising levels of the Red and Assiniboine rivers have made it unsafe to maintain the trail.

The Forks said this year’s trail extended for six kilometres and was open for 62 days, just short of the 68 days it was open in 2025. The longest the trail has been open was 76 days in 2019, while 2024 was the shortest with nine days.

Skating remains available at The Forks, weather permitting, at the Canopy Rink and the Upper Trails.
