Ten years after Thelma Krull’s disappearance, police continue to look for answers

July 11 marks the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Winnipeg woman Thelma Krull, whose disappearance and death remain unsolved.

Ten years after the disappearance of Thelma Krull, a Winnipeg woman who left her home for a morning walk and never returned, police say the case remains unsolved.

Krull left her home in the Grassie Boulevard area on July 11, 2015, at 7:23 a.m., according to police, and is believed to have walked to the Civic Park and Kildonan East Collegiate area, arriving at approximately 8 a.m.

Investigators later recovered several items from the area that belonged to Krull, such as her glasses and mobile phone.

An officer previously stated that they believe she was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect and was forcibly removed from the area.

Remains discovered southeast of Winnipeg

Over three years later, her remains were found on Oct. 27, 2018, in a wooded area southeast of Winnipeg. The remains, discovered by a hunter and confirmed through DNA testing, were located east of Highway 12 and north of Highway 1 in the RM of Taché​.

Investigators believe the suspect was familiar with the area and had a reason to be there, somehow being connected to the location, such as living or working in the area.

In a media release, the Winnipeg Police Service historical homicide unit said, “Despite thousands of hours of work that’s gone into this investigation by both our agency and the RCMP, it sadly remains unsolved.”

“The Winnipeg Police Service wants to thank our community—all of you—for the hundreds of tips and useful information you have provided to us over the past 10 years,”

Police said they have explored “many investigative avenues and leads,” adding that they continue to investigate all submitted tips.

“We believe the answer is still out there, and we are hopeful that with the help of the community we can find justice for Thelma Krull and her family.”

At the time of her disappearance, Krull was described as standing five-foot-four and weighing 170 pounds with short, dyed blonde hair with a purple streak.

Krull was last seen wearing a bright-coloured red or orange t-shirt, three-quarter-length black capri-style pants, a black fanny pack and a brown or tan hiking-style footwear.
