Winnipeg police have charged a man after he allegedly lured a teenager online and sexually assaulted her in a mall washroom. According to police, the teen girl agreed to meet a man she had met online in person. When they met at a shopping mall, the teen went to the washroom when she saw him. Police allege the man followed the teen into an individual washroom, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. The man allegedly threatened the teen verbally and then ran from the mall. The teen girl found mall security and police were called. She also received medical attention. Police began to investigate and identified a suspect. A search warrant was executed at a home on the South Pointe West neighbourhood on Monday, and electronic devices were seized. Police said the suspect turned himself into police later that day. A 19-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, uttering threats, luring a person under 16 and forcible confinement. He was detained in custody. None of the charges have been proven in court.
