The Louis Riel School Division is working to get all students at a St. Vital high school back online after a Wi-Fi issue has left some unable to complete assignments or access course material. Some students at Dakota Collegiate have been unable to log onto the school’s network because there aren’t enough network spots for the number of students trying to connect. Superintendent Jackie Connell told CTV News the problem stems from a standard update made in June, the impact of which wasn’t identified until students returned to school this fall. “The division recently became aware of the issue and immediately engaged our Wi-Fi provider,” Connell said in a statement. “Their engineering team is actively and quickly working to identify the cause and implement a resolution.” Staff laptops have not been affected, and teachers can provide printed materials and non-digital activities as needed to minimize disruption to students, Connell said.
