With the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) set to close, RRC Polytech will take over nearly 20 of its programs beginning this fall. On Wednesday, RRC Polytech announced it will soon offer 19 MITT programs, including “unique offerings, aligned programs that sustain training capacity, and supportive pathways for current students to complete their studies,” according to a news release. The 19 programs include certificates or diplomas for hairstyling, health care aid/personal support work, industrial mechanics, medical assistants, network and systems administrators, pharmacy technicians, and rehabilitation assistants. Other programs are in carpentry, culinary arts and design, early childhood education, global supply chain management, and industrial welding. The full list is available online. “Our focus throughout this work has been on students and on ensuring the in-demand training Manitoba’s economy depends on continues without disruption,” said Fred Meier, president and CEO of RRC Polytech, in a news release. The majority of the 19 programs will be offered at the South Winnipeg campus to allow continued accessibility to the MITT community. The two institutions will be hosting an information night on May 7 at the campus on Henlow Bay from 4 to 7 p.m. where students can learn more about the transition of programming. CTV News reported earlier this year that MITT will be closing amid a lack of international students and financial hardships.
