Rodents, unsanitary conditions shut down five Winnipeg eateries: province

Five food service establishments along Portage Avenue were closed heading into the new year due to a rodent infestation.

Five food establishments within the same block on Portage Avenue were shut down in December and January due to violations that involved rodents.

Tiffin Nation and Amantran, both located at 1811 Portage Ave., closed on Dec. 30, followed by Sushi Edoichi, Arirang Meat Market and Dduck Sa Rang on New Year’s Eve.

According to a health protection report from the province, all five establishments were cited for preparing food under insanitary conditions and failing to take effective measures against the entry and presence of rodents.

The establishments later reopened between Jan. 6 and Jan. 14, the report notes.

The owner of Dduck Sa Rang, who did not give his name, acknowledged the company was shut down by Manitoba Health but said every issue has since been rectified.

“They come back and it’s safe now, that’s why we reopened,” the owner told CTV News Monday afternoon. “Now we have (it) perfectly under control, safe and healthy.”
