Manitoba health officials are warning the public about a possible hepatitis A exposure in Winnipeg. The potential exposure took place between Aug 14 and Sept. 23 at Crossways in Common, a community hub at 222 Furby St. Hepatitis A is a viral infection impacting the liver. Symptoms include abdominal pain, dark urine, diarrhea, fever, jaundice, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and loss of appetite. People with mild symptoms often recover within one to two weeks, but severe illness can last for several months for some people. Hepatitis A can spread through contaminated water and food, along with contact with an infected person. The province says the best way to prevent the spread of infection is to properly wash your hands after using the bathroom or handling diapers, and before eating or preparing food. Anyone who was at the impacted location during this time frame is eligible for a free dose of the hepatitis A vaccine. An immunization clinic will take place on Oct. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at the 1JustCity site at Crossways in Common.
