Two people are in hospital after a rear-end collision on Highway 401 in Oshawa on Thursday afternoon. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed the westbound lanes of the highway between Highway 418 and Harmony Road as a result of the crash. It happened just before 4 p.m. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a car slammed into the back of a broken-down tractor-tailer that was partially in a live lane. The driver of the car was transported to a trauma centre with serious, life-threatening injuries, while the passenger was taken to a local hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Schmidt said. The truck driver was not injured. The highway was expected to reopen around 11 p.m. Police are asking anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to contact them at 905-668-3388.
