Manitoba’s premier is announcing the expansion of emergency funds to help manage unprecedented flooding. On Thursday, Premier Wab Kinew visited the Interlake region to see the impact this week’s flooding had on the area. “We’re not leaving anyone in Manitoba behind,” Kinew said while standing in front of Stonewall’s town hall. To ensure that, the province’s financial disaster assistance program opened to all Manitobans financially struggling after the widespread flooding, Kinew told reporters. The funds are being delegated to help people not fully covered by insurance clean up, recover, and rebuild. “If you look around, you know that this work isn’t going to get finished in one day or one week.” On Wednesday, Kinew first announced funding for the Swan River and Minitonas areas after seeing the devastation in person. No dollar amount has been set for the provincial program. Kinew said funds will flow as needed. Those looking to access emergency funds are asked to contact their municipal leaders or provincial officials.
