Winter storm leaves thousands without power in Manitoba

Thousands in Manitoba were without power due to a winter storm in the province over the weekend.

Manitoba Hydro is still working to restore power to thousands of customers following weather-related outages.

In a news release, the Crown corporation said about 4,500 customers were experiencing outages as of Monday night in northern, eastern, and western parts of the province.

This news comes after wind, rain and heavy snow caused damage and downed power lines across the province, causing widespread outages over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Initially, more than 12,000 customers were affected; however, Hydro safely restored power to several thousand people, though some still remain without power.

The Crown corporation will provide updated restoration times as crews assess damage and continue repairs on Tuesday.

Anyone who sees a downed power line should stay at least 10 metres away and call 911. Customers without power can report outages online or by calling 1-888-624-9376.
