For the third time this week, the provincial government has announced a new school will be coming to Manitoba. Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt said a new kindergarten to Grade 8 is planned for West St. Paul. It will be able to hold 600 students, and just like the two previously announced schools, it will also have 74 infant and preschool spaces. “The West St. Paul area has grown by leaps and bounds,” said Schmidt in a news release. “The new school in West St. Paul will help keep class sizes small while ensuring kids can go to school closer to home.” The school—which will be both French and English—will be in the Meadowlands development, and construction is expected to start in 2026. “This new facility will provide students with a modern, first-rate learning environment where they can thrive, reinforcing our commitment to a quality education. Schools are the heart of our communities, bringing people together with a shared purpose—to support learning, growth and opportunity for all. This addition will not only benefit students but also serve as a gathering place that strengthens the entire community. This commitment will ensure that students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed, now and in the future,” said Seven Oaks School Division Superintendent Tony Kreml in a news release. On Monday, the Manitoba government announced a new school for Transcona that is set to be opened in 2027, and then on Wednesday, a new school in the Waverley neighbourhood was announced, also set to open in 2027.
