Westman communities are dealing with severe flooding after a sudden and devastating downpour. A precipitation system that made its way up and through Manitoba’s southwest corner Monday evening left a path of destruction in its wake. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), as of 8 p.m. Monday, at least four communities were drenched with more than 100 millimetres of rain. One of those reporting 100 millimetres is the western edge of Brandon, according to one report given to ECCC. The city’s airport received 50 mm. A Facebook post from the City of Brandon asked residents to use caution when driving. “Please slow down, give crews space to work, and put safety first. We appreciate your patience as staff continue to respond throughout the community,” the post said. Boissevain soaked with 150mm of rain As of mid-evening Monday, ECCC said at least 10 communities are reporting a downpour of 30 millimetres or more. It expects the reported rainfall amounts to rise as the system moves out of Westman.
