Three women randomly attacked in Winnipeg skywalk: police

A 40-year-old man has been charged after three women were randomly attacked in the Winnipeg Skywalk system.

A 40-year-old man has been charged after three women were randomly assaulted while walking to work in Winnipeg’s Skywalk system Thursday morning.

Police said all three attacks took place between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m.

The first incident took place at 6:30 a.m. near the Millennium Library when a man allegedly grabbed a woman and tried to remove her backpack. The woman yelled at him to get away and ran to safety. She suffered a minor injury, but did not need medical attention.

The second incident took place between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. at the Graham Avenue portion of the Skywalk. Police said a man confronted a woman, yelled obscenities at her and pusher her against a railing before running from the area.

Shortly after, a third woman was walking in the Graham Avenue Skywalk and was confronted by a man who allegedly threatened to stab her and slapped her coffee cup out of her hand. The man threw the cup at the woman and pushed her, but she defended herself and she ran away.

Police were informed about the assaults and the man was arrested in the Skywalk near St. Mary Avenue.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault, robbery, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He was detained in custody and the charges have not been proven in court.
