Officers with the Brandon Police Service responded to a report of a female youth who was chased by an unknown male armed with a knife. The incident began on the afternoon of Oct. 7. A female youth told BPS while walking home from school, she had been chased by the male suspect armed with the knife. The youth told BPS the suspect approached her from behind and pulled on her backpack, then briefly chased her. The youth was able to run away uninjured. After the youth filed the report with BPS, the victim notified officers the suspect was in the 2200 block of Louise Avenue. Officers at the scene located and apprehended the male matching the given description. A 30-year-old male was transported to BPS where a paramedic on scene determined further medical assessment as needed to due a high level of drug intoxication. The suspect was transported to Brandon Regional Health Centre where he was assessed and medically cleared. The suspect was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
