A total of 6.8 megalitres of wastewater have spilled into Winnipeg rivers since Tuesday’s storm, according to reports from the City of Winnipeg’s Water and Wastewater department. That’s equal to 6.8 million litres. The largest – and longest – spill happened at the Woodhaven Pumping Station on Assiniboine Avenue. For roughly 18 hours, 2.6 megalitres of raw sewage spilled. “We did not receive a power failure alarm for the Woodhaven Pumping Station, only a lower priority ‘communication’ alarm,” the report said. “Due to the large volume of system issues, the station crews could not attend until the morning of June 10.” A mobile generator was connected shortly after noon Wednesday. Linden Pumping Station: 2.52 megalitres The city’s report said 2.52 megalitres of untreated wastewater spilled from Linden Pumping Station on Kildonan Drive overnight Wednesday. This was due to overflowing sewers and a nearly 10-hour power failure. Crews were able to connect mobile generators just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. Mager Pumping Station: 0.62 megaliters First on Tuesday, 0.62 megaliters of raw sewage spilled into the river due to a 26-minute power failure. Power was restored at 7:38 p.m. However, that didn’t last. Just after midnight Wednesday, another power failure, along with sewer overflows, caused 1.92 megaliters of untreated sewage to spill. The city said power was restored an hour and a half later. Metcalfe Pumping Station: 0.79 megalitres A nearly four-hour power failure Tuesday led to 0.79 megalitres of untreated wastewater to spill from the pumping station on Metcalfe Avenue. Power failed at 6:43 p.m. The city said crews connected a mobile generator shortly before 9 p.m. Syndicate Pumping Station: 0.27 megalitres The city said 0.27 megaliters of raw sewage spilled from the Syndicate Pumping Station on Tuesday due to overflowing sewers and a power outage. Mobile generators were able to power the station back up at 9:40 p.m.
