A pair of houses under construction in the St. Vital neighbourhood sustained major damage following a Wednesday morning fire. The blaze broke out just before 4 a.m. at two homes in the 200 block of Regal Avenue. When the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived at the scene, they discovered heavy smoke and flames that were threatening other nearby buildings. The City of Winnipeg’s 911 communications centre then dispatched additional firefighters to help fight the flames. The fire was declared under control at 4:45 a.m. Some neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated, but no one was hurt. The fire is under investigation.
