Much of Manitoba saw soaring temperatures on Tuesday with a dozen communities breaking heat records. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), southerly winds brought unseasonably warm weather across the province, including one community that broke a 94-year-old record. The weather data show Berens River reached a new high of 25.9 C, beating its previous record of 23.3 C set in 1931. Winnipeg and Pilot Mound both reached temperatures above 30 C, surpassing heat records set in 1989 and 1963, respectively. Conditions were even warmer in Swan River and Carberry, which both experienced record-breaking temperatures above 31 C. Fisher Branch and Oak Point both beat 55-year-old heat records on Tuesday, while Norway House bested its record from just four years ago. Pinawa, Pine Falls, Shoal Lake and Steinbach also logged record-setting heat on Tuesday, with all four communities reaching temperatures above 27 C. The full report is available online.
