The Gilbert Plains Country Club golf course will be closed for the remainder of the year after it was hit with significant rainfall last month. The country club announced on social media Thursday, following discussions with the board of directors, that it has decided to shut down the course for the remainder of the season. “The decision was not made lightly. Due to ongoing conditions, repair, and construction affecting the course, we believe this is the most responsible course of action,” the country club said in its post. The area was hit with massive amounts of rain last month that resulted in many cities and towns declaring states of emergency. In Dauphin, which is 20 minutes away from Gilbert Plains, the hospital suffered flooding damage that resulted in it being shut down. With the season ending, the country club said the men’s league will also be cancelled for the remainder of the season. As well, it is working on next steps regarding refunds, and it will provide those details as soon as possible. “At this time, the board will continue to focus on planning for the future, with the goal of ensuring the long-term sustainability and success of the Gilbert Plains Country Club. As information becomes available, the board will continue to provide details to members and the community.” The country club is holding a 50/50 fundraiser to help pay for the insurance deductible, with the draw set for Aug. 30.
