It is a pleasant summer day across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario on Thursday. Much of southwestern Manitoba, including Brandon, will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud with daytime highs in the low 20s. Winnipeg and the southeast will enjoy similar sky conditions with slightly warmer highs in the mid-20s. To the east, northwestern Ontario will shine even brighter under mainly sunny skies with afternoon temperatures reaching the mid-20s. After several days of scattered showers, northern Manitoba will finally see sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud on Thursday. Daytime highs in most northern regions are forecast to reach seasonal highs in the low 20s. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said isolated non-severe thunderstorms are possible in parts of central Manitoba on Thursday. Sunny skies Thursday will turn soggy on Friday in parts of Manitoba. The weather agency said a disturbance forming in the US will bring rain first to the southwest. The first bands of rain will arrive overnight into early Friday morning in the southwest corner, including Virden and Melita. Rain will continue to spread across the southwest on Friday morning, including into Brandon and Dauphin. ECCC said widespread rainfall totals near 30 mm are forecast by Friday evening, roughly from Estevan, Sask., through Virden to Minnedosa. Thunderstorms could produce localized amounts closer to 60 mm. Rain and showers are expected to reach Winnipeg by Friday night and continue into Saturday morning.
