Colleen Bready’s Forecast: Temperatures falling across southern Manitoba

After several days of unseasonably mild temperatures, things are changing quickly in southern Manitoba Tuesday.

Temperatures that started above freezing Tuesday morning are now falling fast in Winnipeg, courtesy of a cold front over the Prairies that’s whipping up strong northwest winds.

The cold front is associated with a low in northwestern Ontario, where temperatures are also falling this afternoon.

Expect a few afternoon flurries across southern Manitoba, although the southwest has a good chance of seeing some sunshine.

Sunny skies have returned to most of northern Manitoba Tuesday, along with daytime temperatures in the -20s, and wind chill values in the -30s.

The sky will start to clear out Tuesday night in the south, with overnight lows in the -20s.

Wednesday will be sunny across much of Manitoba. In the south, expect more seasonal highs in the mid-minus teens.

Sunshine won’t stick around long—snow returns Thursday as the next low pressure crosses the Prairies.

Environment and Climate Change Canada said it will move in from the Northwest Territories, with a warm front that will spread a wide swath of snow from northwestern Manitoba to Lake of the Woods.

Look for temperatures to swing back up above the freezing mark in the south, which will limit snowfall amounts.
