Manitoba weather: More snow for some parts of the province

Although Winnipeg was spared the brunt of the recent snowstorm to hit southern Manitoba, some communities got much more snow, with even more on the way on Thursday.

Up to 20-30 centimetres of snow was dumped along the Manitoba escarpment and in the higher terrain of the Parkland region, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

The weather agency has continued a snowfall warning for the area, including Swan River, Dauphin and communities along the western shoreline of Lake Winnipegosis and Lake Manitoba, where another 2-4 centimetres is expected Thursday.

However, many other areas also received a wintry wallop. Boissevain tops the list with 25 centimetres as of Thursday morning.

The snowfall warning has ended for the rest of southern Manitoba.

Most central and northwestern parts of the province will see 2-5 centimetres of snow on Thursday. The last of it will end late tonight in Thompson.

Northwestern Ontario will also get a light dusting of snow on Thursday. Snowfall amounts won’t be significant.

The last of the lingering snowfall in the south will taper off throughout the day on Friday. Parts of the southwest, including Brandon, could see some afternoon sunshine.

Once the snow ends, expect much colder temperatures in the south over the next few days, bringing an end to the almost springlike temperatures we’ve been enjoying as of late.
