Children sent to hospital after school bus rear-ends tractor: RCMP

Several students were taken to hospital after a crash involving a school bus and tractor in rural Manitoba Tuesday morning.

RCMP say the crash happened near the intersection of Road 37 West and Road 43 North in the RM of Grey, which is almost 100 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

Officers from the Treherne detachment arrived at around 9 a.m. Paramedics were already there helping people on the bus.

According to RCMP, a grader was pushing debris south on Road 37, and a tractor was following behind to collect it. Mounties said the bus rear-ended the tractor.

There were 31 children, all students in the Prairie Spirit School Division, on the bus at the time. Eight children were taken to hospital, all with minor injuries, according to RCMP.

Both drivers involved in the crash were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The crash is under investigation.
